How to Make an Online Course

Making an online course can be easier than you think and you don’t even have to spend any money to be successful at it! I will break it down as simply as possible in 3 steps.

Step 1. What is something that you are good at that other people might want to learn. This can be a skill such as: making Excel spreadsheets, making Powerpoint presentations, cooking, etc.

Step 2. Now having your course topic, all the programs you need to use are free! Quicktime player comes on all PC’s and Macs. With quicktime you can easily record your computer screen to make a video on how to do something on the computer. Quicktime also allows you to record audio at the same time so you can talk alongside your recording. Another good tool is Powerpoint or Keynote on a mac. IMovie or Windows Movie Maker come free on Mac and PC respectively to give you a place to edit your video and audio easily.

Step 3. Once all of your video and/or text content for you course is created you can easily upload them to online course sites for free! Udemy is the biggest online course site and they will even market your course for you that gives you way more exposure and sales. Although, Udemy does take a major cut of those sales. Teachable is an alternative site where you can upload your course content and keep the majority of the sales. With Teachable you get your own URL and have to drive your own traffic.

Creating a course is easy but can be time consuming. The greatest challenge is driving traffic to your course and making high quality content that people will pay good money for.
